Who doesn’t know what a PC is? Personal Computers are one of the most defining features of our time. Machines that are great for work, for fun and for studying. But what PC really is? The Wiki says it’s a “multi-purpose electronic computer whose size, capabilities and price make it feasible for individual use”. But it gets better: “Personal Computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician”. Computers were originally invented to “compute” and solve complex mathematical problems. Today, everything is different and their original purpose is actually the least important one. Instead, they are used for gathering data (internet), entertainment (video games, movies, music, etc) and work. Since the early 1990s, Microsoft operating systems and Intel hardware have dominated the PC market. There are alternatives to Microsoft Windows operating system but they still occupy a minority share of the industry. These include Apple's iOS and free open-source operating systems (e.g. Linux and Chrome OS).
TBS (Turn-Base Strategy) game is a subgenre of strategy video games where players take their turns when playing. This is completely different from real-time strategy (RTS) where all players play the same game simultaneously. Turn based strategy is ideal for gamers with low APM (Action-Per-Minute rate) and more casual approach towards gaming. The first TBS video games were actually converted from historic board games. After their huge success, video game companies created their own franchises based on original concepts. That’s how the best TBS games of all time were born. Titles like Sid Meier's Civilization, Panzer General, and of course the entire Heroes of Might and Magic series are well known among the players from all over the world. Remember the time when open-world games were a novelty? Well, there is one particular title that contributed more than the most to this aspect of video game mechanics. What game are we talking about? Take a wild guess. Gothic is an action RPG franchise, developed and owned by German studio called Piranha Bytes. However, the latest installment in the spin-off series was developed by Spellbound Entertainment. The Gothic games’ setting is a medieval fantasy world, in which humans are losing the war against the orcish armies. The protagonist, a young nameless man, is forced to work his way up, from being a convict in the penal colony to saving the world from the ancient evil. In order to continue the fight against the countless orcs, demons and the undead, our protagonist has to gather much-needed experience, form alliances, and develop into a real hero of Myrtana. The franchise consists of three main games, two large expansions, and an official spinoff, Arcania. This spinoff, Arcania is set in the same universe and shares many aspects with the original Gothic series. Gothic games were extremely successful and, in many ways, groundbreaking. You should definitely give them a chance!
