Who doesn’t know what a PC is? Personal Computers are one of the most defining features of our time. Machines that are great for work, for fun and for studying. But what PC really is? The Wiki says it’s a “multi-purpose electronic computer whose size, capabilities and price make it feasible for individual use”. But it gets better: “Personal Computers are intended to be operated directly by an end-user, rather than by a computer expert or technician”. Computers were originally invented to “compute” and solve complex mathematical problems. Today, everything is different and their original purpose is actually the least important one. Instead, they are used for gathering data (internet), entertainment (video games, movies, music, etc) and work. Since the early 1990s, Microsoft operating systems and Intel hardware have dominated the PC market. There are alternatives to Microsoft Windows operating system but they still occupy a minority share of the industry. These include Apple's iOS and free open-source operating systems (e.g. Linux and Chrome OS).Beat 'em up games (also known as brawlers) are part of a very old video game genre originating from arcade. Typical beat’em up’s feature hand-to-hand combat between the hero (player’s character) and a hugely disproportionate number of various enemies. Games of this genre typically do take place in urban settings and feature crime-fighting plots, though some games may also employ fantasy or sci-fi themes. Traditional beat 'em ups take place in 2D levels, scrolling from right to left. Beat’em up games are noted for their simplistic design and intuitive gameplay. Another hallmarks of the genre are cooperative mode and multiple player characters. All time beat’em up classics include such gems as Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Double Dragon. The most recent beat’em up games are Guacamelee!, Shank (both mixed with platformers), Devil May Cry, and God of War (both mixed with 3D hack and slash). On Games Republic you’ll find only the best beat’em up games! Become a vigilante and start fighting crime on the streets.Remember the time when open-world games were a novelty? Well, there is one particular title that contributed more than the most to this aspect of video game mechanics. What game are we talking about? Take a wild guess. Gothic is an action RPG franchise, developed and owned by German studio called Piranha Bytes. However, the latest installment in the spin-off series was developed by Spellbound Entertainment. The Gothic games’ setting is a medieval fantasy world, in which humans are losing the war against the orcish armies. The protagonist, a young nameless man, is forced to work his way up, from being a convict in the penal colony to saving the world from the ancient evil. In order to continue the fight against the countless orcs, demons and the undead, our protagonist has to gather much-needed experience, form alliances, and develop into a real hero of Myrtana. The franchise consists of three main games, two large expansions, and an official spinoff, Arcania. This spinoff, Arcania is set in the same universe and shares many aspects with the original Gothic series. Gothic games were extremely successful and, in many ways, groundbreaking. You should definitely give them a chance!Hide
