Tower Defense games (also known as TD) is a subgenre of strategy video games where the player’s main goal is defending territories or possessions. Players are obstructing enemy attackers by placing defensive structures (towers) along their regular path of attack. Tower defense is generally seen as a subgenre of RTS video games, due to its real-time origins. That said, many modern tower defense games also include aspects of a turn-based strategy. The series' plot focuses on multiple characters and their role in recurring outbreaks of zombies and other horrible monsters. These events are triggered by the release of the infamous T-virus (and other biological weapons) created by the fictional Umbrella Corporation. The first Resident Evil game was released in early 1996 as a survival horror, but the franchise has since grown to encompass also other video game genres. Today, it’s a fusion of action-adventure, TPP, and horror-inspired plotlines but also employs some level exploration and simple puzzle solving.
