Survival horror is a subgenre of action-adventure video games heavily inspired by horror fiction. It is typically focused on the character’s survival as the game continuously tries to scare him/her with either graphics or sound effects. Although combat can be an integral part of the gameplay, the player is rarely in control of it (unlike in the typical action game). The reasons behind this are limited ammunition, poor vision, and various other obstructions preventing player's interaction with the in-game world. The player also needs to find certain items which then allow him/her to unlock the path to new areas and therefore make progress in the game. Survival horror makes use of many horror themes (e.g. dark maze-like environment, unexpected attacks from enemies, and dynamic music). The franchises like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark are considered to be the best survival horror video games of all time. Do you like to be afraid? Games Republic has survival horror games for every PC and console gamer.Recommended indie gamesSonic the Hedgehog is a very popular video game franchise created by Sega. The series’ protagonist is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog named Sonic, who tries to stop the diabolical Doctor Eggman and foil his plans of world domination. Thankfully, Sonic is not alone as he can always count on his friends: Tails, Amy, and Knuckles.
