Sandbox is a loose term used to describe the open world video games. In a typical sandbox RPG, players can move freely through a virtual world and are given particular freedom in regard to objective approach - unlike in other RPG games with more linear structure. XCOM is a reboot of the original X-Com, created by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. It’s a sci-fi video game franchise featuring an elite international organization tasked with countering alien invasion of Earth. The series began in 1994 with the strategy video game UFO: Enemy Unknown. The original franchise (developed by MicroProse) included six published games and two novelizations.
