Platform games (also known as platformers) are one of the oldest video game genres. Their main mechanic focuses around maneuvering an avatar to jump between platforms and over different obstacles to progress in the game. Jumps, attacks and all other movements are controlled by the player. Platform games were developed in the early 1980s but popularized in the mid-1990s. The term “platform games” describes titles in which jumping on platforms is considered an integral part of the gameplay. It was established no later than in 1983. The best and most well-known platform games are Super Mario Bros, Contra, Trine, and Rayman. Most of these franchises already have a cult status among their fans. In Single Player mode, only one player is expected to participate in every gaming session. The term “Single Player video game” usually refers to a game that can only be played by one person. Because of this fact, most multiplayer games try not to focus on a linear narrative. By contrast, many Single Player games are built around a compelling story and interactions with the in-game world.
