Platform games (also known as platformers) are one of the oldest video game genres. Their main mechanic focuses around maneuvering an avatar to jump between platforms and over different obstacles to progress in the game. Jumps, attacks and all other movements are controlled by the player. Platform games were developed in the early 1980s but popularized in the mid-1990s. The term “platform games” describes titles in which jumping on platforms is considered an integral part of the gameplay. It was established no later than in 1983. The best and most well-known platform games are Super Mario Bros, Contra, Trine, and Rayman. Most of these franchises already have a cult status among their fans. It’s worth noting that platform games were, at one point, the most popular video game genre. On Games Republic player can find only the best platform games for PC and consoles. The term “Single Player video game” usually refers to a game that can only be played by one person. The “Single Player mode” usually refers to a particular game mode that is designed for one player, though the game also contains other modes (that can be played by several players simultaneously). The majority of modern video games are designed so that they can be played in Single Player. Although many of these games have modes that allow two or more players to have fun, very few require more than one player for the game to be played. A good example is The Unreal Tournament series. Single Player games rely heavily on compelling stories and immersive settings. The point of this is drawing players into the experience and creating a sense of investment. Humans are unpredictable and therefore players cannot be relied upon to carry a narrative in a particular direction. Because of this fact, most multiplayer games try not to focus on a linear narrative. By contrast, many Single Player games are built around a compelling story and interactions with the in-game world.Sonic the Hedgehog is a very popular video game franchise created by Sega. The franchise consists mostly of speed-based platform games but it has been spun out into other media (cartoons, anime, comic book series, etc.) as well. Aside from the aforementioned platformers, Sonic games consist of puzzle, fighting, and even RPG titles. The series’ protagonist is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog named Sonic, who tries to stop the diabolical Doctor Eggman and foil his plans of world domination. Thankfully, Sonic is not alone as he can always count on his friends: Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. Sonic the Hedgehog video game series has sold over 80 million physical copies (over 350 million units with mobile downloads).
