Max Payne is a video game franchise created by Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Studios. It is named after the game’s protagonist, Max Payne, a detective who became a vigilante after the murder of his entire family. The series' first (2001) and second (2003) installments were written by Sam Lake and Max Payne 3 (2012) by Dan Houser. There was also a movie adaptation, loosely based on the original game, starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. The movie came out in 2008. The Max Payne franchise is notable for its introduction and use of “bullet time” in many of its action sequences. All three games were very positively received by critics and gamers alike. The series has sold over 10 million copies worldwide and is to this day considered by many players as one of the most influential in TPP action games. Bayonetta is a series of TPP action games created by PlatinumGames. Its first installment was originally released in 2009 (Japan) and 2010 (North America and Europe). Originally it was a PlayStation-only title but in 2014 the game was also released on the Wii U alongside its sequel, Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta’s port for Microsoft Windows was released in April 2017. Bayonetta takes place in Vigrid, a fictional European city. The games’ protagonist (and titular character) is a witch, capable of shapeshifting and proficient in using various weapons. She can also summon demons and use multiple magical attacks. Bayonetta features a great combat system, very is similar to the Devil May Cry series. Both games received very good reviews and were praised for their combat mechanics and soundtrack. The first Bayonetta game sold over 1.5 million units worldwide and was awarded and nominated for several end-of-the-year accolades. Fun fact: An anime adaptation, titled Bayonetta: Bloody Fate, was released in 2013. If you like non-stop action and fluid combat mechanics, Bayonetta games are the perfect pick for you.
