Another important part of gameplay is resource management. The first of the series, Shogun: Total War was released in 2000 and introduced some new mechanics to the genre. Since then, 9 other Total War games have been released, with the most recent one, Total War: Warhammer, selling almost 1 million copies in its first week. The entire series sold over 20 million units worldwide and is considered one of the best strategy franchises of all time.
