In Single Player mode, only one player is expected to participate in every gaming session. The term “Single Player video game” usually refers to a game that can only be played by one person. The “Single Player mode” usually refers to a particular game mode that is designed for one player, though the game also contains other modes (that can be played by several players simultaneously). The majority of modern video games are designed so that they can be played in Single Player. Although many of these games have modes that allow two or more players to have fun, very few require more than one player for the game to be played. A good example is The Unreal Tournament series. Single Player games rely heavily on compelling stories and immersive settings. The point of this is drawing players into the experience and creating a sense of investment. Humans are unpredictable and therefore players cannot be relied upon to carry a narrative in a particular direction. Because of this fact, most multiplayer games try not to focus on a linear narrative. By contrast, many Single Player games are built around a compelling story and interactions with the in-game world.
XCOM is a reboot of the original X-Com, created by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. It’s a sci-fi video game franchise featuring an elite international organization tasked with countering alien invasion of Earth. The series began in 1994 with the strategy video game UFO: Enemy Unknown. The original franchise (developed by MicroProse) included six published games and two novelizations. The series achieved a sizable cult following and has influenced many other video games; including the creation of a number of clones, spiritual successors, and unofficial remakes. The XCOM series began in 2012 with the strategy video game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It was a critical and commercial success, with immediately spawn an expansion, called Enemy Within, as well as a prequel, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. A sequel, titled XCOM 2, has been released in 2016. Take command over the elite squad and stop the alien invasion. The setting and atmosphere in the XCOM games are truly amazing. Try them out!
Far Cry is a renown franchise of FPS video games. The first game, titled Far Cry, was developed by Crytek and published by Ubisoft in early 2004. The game revolutionized the approach to modern FPS games and received many positive reviews (as well as praise from the gaming community). The original game has been followed by three sequels: Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3, and Far Cry 4 and spawned various spin-offs, most notably Far Cry Instincts and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. There was even a Far Cry movie (based loosely on the first game), released in 2008 but it couldn’t match the level of video games. All games in Far Cry franchise are known for their exotic open-world environments (Micronesia, the Himalayas, Africa) and are not tied to each other. The former feature is one of the series’ trademarks and the main reason behind a large number of awards. Every Far Cry game includes a map editing program that allows players to create and share their own unique maps for multiplayer use. Who doesn’t know Far Cry?
