Devil May Cry (also known as DMC)is a video game series created by Hideki Kamiya and Capcom. Originally created as a Resident Evil’s sequel, it was so different in style and mechanics that it was developed into a completely new game. The series focuses on the main character Dante and his goal of avenging his mother's murder. The gameplay consists of multiple combat scenes in which players have to extend long chains of attacks and avoid taking damage. The series is very loosely based on the Divine Comedy poem by the use of numerous allusions (including the game's protagonist, named after Dante Alighieri). The gameplay of Devil May Cry games focuses primarily on fast-paced combat, puzzle-solving, and exploration (the latter are retained from DMC’s survival horror origins). They are downplayed however as Devil May Cry games focus mostly on action. The Devil May Cry series has been a massive hit, with the first three games selling millions of copies worldwide. Red Faction is a series of shooter video games created by Volition and currently owned by THQ Nordic. Since the introduction of the first Red Faction game in 2001, the franchise was released on multiple platforms (PC, PlayStation, GameCube, and Xbox). The Red Faction series has been heavy on its thematic undertones throughout the games (one of the more outstanding themes was a revolutionary socialist undertone). From the miners rebellion featured in Red Faction and Red Faction: Guerrilla (2009) to the overthrown monarchy of Red Faction II (2002), this has been a central theme since the franchise’s inception. Red Faction series has had three distinct styles of gameplay over the years. The first is a traditional FPS element (used by the first two games in the series), while the second is a TPS style of open world gameplay (Red Faction: Guerrilla) and a third person style of corridor shooter used in Red Faction: Armageddon. All games share one common element which is the series' unique environmental destruction system. This system (based on a Geo-Mod engine) was the most proficient in Red Faction: Guerrilla where the game's entire environment was completely destructible. The series has received many positive reviews, with the original Red Faction and third installment (Red Faction: Guerrilla) getting the most acclaim.
