Because of this fact, most multiplayer games try not to focus on a linear narrative. By contrast, many Single Player games are built around a compelling story and interactions with the in-game world.
Grand Theft Auto is such a legendary franchise. With over 250 million units sold, the GTA brand is well-known in the gaming world. GTA games are typically set in fictional cities (e.g. Liberty City, Vice City, or San Andreas), which are stand-ins for the real-world cities. Gameplay focuses on an open world where the player can choose his/her objectives and complete various missions in order to progress an overall story. There are many engaging side activities, all consisting of driving, action-adventure, TPS, stealth, racing, and even roleplay elements. Each part of the GTA series focuses on a different protagonist who attempts to rise through the ranks of the city’s criminal underworld. In most cases, Hitman games allow the player many different options to accomplish their objective. Players can perform precise assassinations or slaughter mindlessly but the game tends to reward a subtle approach. 47 can also wear a variety of disguises (police officers, firemen, waiters, technicians, and so on) to his fool enemies and gain access to many otherwise restricted areas. The focus of Hitman is not hiding in the shadows, but rather blending in amongst enemies. Previously published by Eidos Interactive, and currently published by Square Enix, the Hitman series is available on Microsoft Windows as well as several video game consoles, including the Xbox, PlayStation, and GameCube. The original game series has also expanded into a novelization, Hitman: Enemy Within, followed by two film adaptations (in 2007 and 2015), which are loosely based on the games’ storyline.
