With the release of Assassin's Creed II (2009), Ubisoft launched the Uplay network which can be activated either in-game or through the Uplay website. Uplay network allows players to connect with each other and gain various rewards based on in-game achievement system. Uplay is a digital distribution platform created by Ubisoft Entertainment Sweden AB. It offers digital rights management (DRM), many multiplayer options and communications service. It provides an experience similar to the achievements systems offered by other game companies. The service works across multiple platforms (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Wii U, iOS, Windows Phone, Android, Facebook, and more). Uplay is used exclusively by Ubisoft games, and although some third-party titles are sold through the Uplay store, they do not use the platform and don’t share its extensive benefits.

In Single Player mode, only one player is expected to participate in every gaming session. The term “Single Player video game” usually refers to a game that can only be played by one person. The “Single Player mode” usually refers to a particular game mode that is designed for one player, though the game also contains other modes (that can be played by several players simultaneously). Humans are unpredictable and therefore players cannot be relied upon to carry a narrative in a particular direction. Because of this fact, most multiplayer games try not to focus on a linear narrative. By contrast, many Single Player games are built around a compelling story and interactions with the in-game world.

Take a wild guess. Gothic is an action RPG franchise, developed and owned by German studio called Piranha Bytes. However, the latest installment in the spin-off series was developed by Spellbound Entertainment. The Gothic games’ setting is a medieval fantasy world, in which humans are losing the war against the orcish armies. The protagonist, a young nameless man, is forced to work his way up, from being a convict in the penal colony to saving the world from the ancient evil. In order to continue the fight against the countless orcs, demons and the undead, our protagonist has to gather much-needed experience, form alliances, and develop into a real hero of Myrtana. The franchise consists of three main games, two large expansions, and an official spinoff, Arcania. This spinoff, Arcania is set in the same universe and shares many aspects with the original Gothic series. Gothic games were extremely successful and, in many ways, groundbreaking. You should definitely give them a chance!
