Origin is a digital distribution platform developed by Electronic Arts. It offers mainly online gaming service and digital rights management (DRM). Origin allows its users to purchase games via the internet for PC and mobile platforms and then download them with the Origin client. It also features many social options, like profile management, networking with friends on chat, and direct game joining (along with the in-game overlay). Another cool option is streaming via TwitchTV, sharing of game library and community integration with networking sites (Facebook, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, etc.). Electronic Arts wants Origin to match its leading competitor, Steam by adding many new features, rewards, and cross-platform releases. Origin also allows its users to browse and purchase games for full price from Electronic Arts' catalogs. Instead of receiving a box, disc, or even an activation code, the purchased software is immediately (and permanently) attached to the user's account and can be downloaded with the corresponding Origin client. EA Downloader was launched in late 2005. After many changes, it was reopened under the Origin name on June 3, 2011. Currently, Origin has over 50 million registered users.
War. War never changes. Every time you play a Fallout game, those legendary words are coming out of the speakers. Fallout is a franchise consisting of eight post-apocalyptic role-playing video games created in 1998 by Interplay Entertainment. All events in the series are set in the 22nd and 23rd century. It’s a dystopian, retrofuturistic world heavily influenced by the America’s post-war culture (a unique combination of hope, technology, fear, and nuclear annihilation). The Fallout series is said to be a spiritual successor of 1988’s Wasteland. Although the game worlds are different, the story, locations, inhabitants, and characters (both playable and non-playable) draw many parallels. The first two installments in the series, Fallout (1997) and Fallout 2 (1998), were developed by Black Isle Studios and are considered groundbreaking among the RPG fans. Since the release of Fallout 3 (2008) the franchise took a different approach. Fallout games became first-person shooters (with some RPG elements) set in the open world. It made the gameplay more simple and accessible, a fact that was both praised and criticized by the series’ fans. The most recent installment in the series is Fallout 4, released in late 2015. Red Faction is a series of shooter video games created by Volition and currently owned by THQ Nordic. Since the introduction of the first Red Faction game in 2001, the franchise was released on multiple platforms (PC, PlayStation, GameCube, and Xbox). The Red Faction series has been heavy on its thematic undertones throughout the games (one of the more outstanding themes was a revolutionary socialist undertone). From the miners rebellion featured in Red Faction and Red Faction: Guerrilla (2009) to the overthrown monarchy of Red Faction II (2002), this has been a central theme since the franchise’s inception. Red Faction series has had three distinct styles of gameplay over the years. The first is a traditional FPS element (used by the first two games in the series), while the second is a TPS style of open world gameplay (Red Faction: Guerrilla) and a third person style of corridor shooter used in Red Faction: Armageddon. All games share one common element which is the series' unique environmental destruction system. This system (based on a Geo-Mod engine) was the most proficient in Red Faction: Guerrilla where the game's entire environment was completely destructible. The series has received many positive reviews, with the original Red Faction and third installment (Red Faction: Guerrilla) getting the most acclaim.
