Total War is a franchise consisting of 10 strategy video games developed by Creative Assembly and published by Electronic Arts. All of the Total War games are considered textbook strategy games as they combine the elements of RTS and TBS (the turn-based strategy with real-time battle tactics). Another important part of gameplay is resource management. The first of the series, Shogun: Total War was released in 2000 and introduced some new mechanics to the genre. Since then, 9 other Total War games have been released, with the most recent one, Total War: Warhammer, selling almost 1 million copies in its first week. The entire series sold over 20 million units worldwide and is considered one of the best strategy franchises of all time. It’s a sci-fi video game franchise featuring an elite international organization tasked with countering alien invasion of Earth. The series began in 1994 with the strategy video game UFO: Enemy Unknown. The original franchise (developed by MicroProse) included six published games and two novelizations. The series achieved a sizable cult following and has influenced many other video games; including the creation of a number of clones, spiritual successors, and unofficial remakes. The XCOM series began in 2012 with the strategy video game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It was a critical and commercial success, with immediately spawn an expansion, called Enemy Within, as well as a prequel, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
