Warhammer 40,000 (also known as Warhammer 40K or just 40K) is a franchise created by Games Workshop, set in a dystopian sci-fi universe. Warhammer 40,000 was created by in 1987 as the futuristic equivalent to Warhammer Fantasy franchise, sharing many game mechanics. Created as a series of tabletop games, Warhammer 40,000 quickly evolved and spun into other media. Books, comics, and video games set in the 40K universe are numerous just like their fans. Dystopian, gritty and extremely brutal, Warhammer games are set in the war-torn future where humans (known as The Empire Of Man) fight various races and powers for galactic dominance. During the last 25 years, a multitude of video games from various genres was created under the Warhammer 40,000 brand. Real-time strategy games, turn-based strategy games, action adventure games, first-person shooters, third-person shooters, and even card games. The most notable title is definitely Dawn of War (as well as its sequel, Dawn of War II). The franchise is extremely successful and has a large group of diehard fans. When people say “FPS”, they usually think about either Doom or Quake. The latter, albeit much younger, was definitely the more “active” on the market which resulted in many installments in the series. The third installment in the series, Quake III Arena (1999), was a multiplayer-focused FPS and a response to the increasingly popular Unreal Tournament game. Quake games are iconic and even now, after all these years, they can bring a smile on gamer’s face. A title definitely worth trying!

There are currently two main installments, both of which are a unique combination of action role-playing and hack ’n’ slash genre. The franchise is inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with the player taking the role of two of them: War (Darksiders) and Death (Darksiders II). In Darksiders games, players take control of War and Death, two of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Both games are shown in third-person perspective and engage players in combat, exploration, and various puzzles. The world is divided into many separate locations with some areas initially inaccessible. The first game was released in 2010 for multiple platforms and its sequel in 2012. Darksiders franchise has sold over 3 million units worldwide. Darksiders is one of the best action games ever made for consoles. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s incredibly addictive.
