Total War is a franchise consisting of 10 strategy video games developed by Creative Assembly and published by Electronic Arts. All of the Total War games are considered textbook strategy games as they combine the elements of RTS and TBS (the turn-based strategy with real-time battle tactics). Another important part of gameplay is resource management. The first of the series, Shogun: Total War was released in 2000 and introduced some new mechanics to the genre. Since then, 9 other Total War games have been released, with the most recent one, Total War: Warhammer, selling almost 1 million copies in its first week. The entire series sold over 20 million units worldwide and is considered one of the best strategy franchises of all time.
