Metal Gear is a series of Japanese video games, created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. The franchise successfully combines action-adventure genre with a stealth genre. The series’ first installment, Metal Gear, was released in 1987. In Metal Gear players take control over a special forces operative, named Solid Snake, who needs to find the titular “Metal Gear”, a bipedal walking tank. Since 1987 several sequels for multiple consoles have been released. These sequels expand the original game's plot by adding new characters (both opposing and supporting Snake), while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of many characters. The franchise has also been adapted into other media (e.g. comics and novels). The most notable traits of Metal Gear franchise are its intricate storylines, fourth wall humor, and exploration of many philosophical and political themes, with multiple references to Hollywood movies as an extra flavor. The Gothic games’ setting is a medieval fantasy world, in which humans are losing the war against the orcish armies. The protagonist, a young nameless man, is forced to work his way up, from being a convict in the penal colony to saving the world from the ancient evil. In order to continue the fight against the countless orcs, demons and the undead, our protagonist has to gather much-needed experience, form alliances, and develop into a real hero of Myrtana. The franchise consists of three main games, two large expansions, and an official spinoff, Arcania. This spinoff, Arcania is set in the same universe and shares many aspects with the original Gothic series. Gothic games were extremely successful and, in many ways, groundbreaking. You should definitely give them a chance!
