XCOM is a reboot of the original X-Com, created by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. It’s a sci-fi video game franchise featuring an elite international organization tasked with countering alien invasion of Earth. The series began in 1994 with the strategy video game UFO: Enemy Unknown. The original franchise (developed by MicroProse) included six published games and two novelizations. The series achieved a sizable cult following and has influenced many other video games; including the creation of a number of clones, spiritual successors, and unofficial remakes. The XCOM series began in 2012 with the strategy video game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It was a critical and commercial success, with immediately spawn an expansion, called Enemy Within, as well as a prequel, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. BioShock is a franchise consisting of three FPS video games, developed and published by 2K Games. The first installment in the series was released in August 2007 for multiple platforms. It was a huge hit and quickly spun into the other media. All games in the series (BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite) are set in various dystopian cities/communities and the games’ protagonist has to fight against all odds to survive. BioShock includes elements of aforementioned FPS, survival horrors, and even role-playing games, giving the player different approaches in engaging enemies and various obstacles. The BioShock games were often praised for their disturbing, morality-based storylines, immersive environments, and unique settings, and are all considered to be some of the greatest video games of all time. The protagonist, a young nameless man, is forced to work his way up, from being a convict in the penal colony to saving the world from the ancient evil. In order to continue the fight against the countless orcs, demons and the undead, our protagonist has to gather much-needed experience, form alliances, and develop into a real hero of Myrtana. The franchise consists of three main games, two large expansions, and an official spinoff, Arcania. This spinoff, Arcania is set in the same universe and shares many aspects with the original Gothic series. Gothic games were extremely successful and, in many ways, groundbreaking. You should definitely give them a chance!
