Action Role-Playing video games (also known as RPG or ARPG) are a subgenre of role-playing video games that tend to focus on action and fighting instead of level progressing and planning. Action RPG often incorporates various elements from action games and even from action-adventure games. Big part of this genre are also so-called “Diablo clones” or hack & slash games. The typical action RPG focuses mainly on combat, at the cost of simplifying (or removing) all non-combat attributes and statistics. Additionally, combat always takes place in the real-time system and relies on the player's ability to perform particular actions with optimal speed and accuracy. All top action RPGs tend to focus more on the collection of randomized treasure (or loot) than story progression that is found in other types of role-playing games. Every PC gamer will find the best Action RPGs on Games Republic. Only top titles!Max Payne is a video game franchise created by Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Studios. Well, there is one particular title that contributed more than the most to this aspect of video game mechanics. What game are we talking about? Take a wild guess. Gothic is an action RPG franchise, developed and owned by German studio called Piranha Bytes. However, the latest installment in the spin-off series was developed by Spellbound Entertainment. The Gothic games’ setting is a medieval fantasy world, in which humans are losing the war against the orcish armies. The protagonist, a young nameless man, is forced to work his way up, from being a convict in the penal colony to saving the world from the ancient evil. In order to continue the fight against the countless orcs, demons and the undead, our protagonist has to gather much-needed experience, form alliances, and develop into a real hero of Myrtana. The franchise consists of three main games, two large expansions, and an official spinoff, Arcania. This spinoff, Arcania is set in the same universe and shares many aspects with the original Gothic series. Gothic games were extremely successful and, in many ways, groundbreaking. You should definitely give them a chance!Hide
